Hannah’s Nursery – Closet Makeover

We’re so excited to have completed the first project in Hannah’s nursery. Currently we have Newborn and 0-3 month clothing hanging in her closet. We used 16″ wide sheets of MDF from Home Depot for the basic shelving. The Ikea Expedit bookcase () with 3 pink Ikea Dröna baskets for each provide the basis for the design. The plastic containers on the shelf are from Target. The hamper was at Wal-Mart. The wicker basket was at Goodwill. A tutorial on the closet dividers will be posted shortly. Between hand-me-downs from Hannah’s cousin Kylie, garage sales and my consignment purchases, 99% of the clothing is second hand and cost ~ 0.

How to Organize Your Closet

After living in the worlds smallest studio apartment during college, I learned very quickly how to utilize every inch of space and keep things in divine order. While I have much more space now, I still price myself on a really well organized closet and never allow clutter to accumulate. Keeping a tidy closet also helps you dress better. By having things in order, you will be able to put yourself together and always look great. Below are a few rules I follow to keeping a well organized closet and making the most of your wardrobe. 1. Get rid of anything you no longer wear, doesn’t fit, will not wear in the future or that you simply don’t feel great in. 2. Invest in matching and functional hangers that will not only keep your clothes, but will look uniform in your closet 3. To get the most space from your closet, utilize top shelves and out of the way space with out of season clothing 4. For additional out of season storage, invest in bins that can be stored easily under the bed. 5. Use hooks on the wall and back of the door to hang belts and handbags. 6. If you are short on hanging space, use a large basket to house belts 7. To keep your boots standing at attention, roll up a magazine and insert it into the leg of the boot 8. Hang your clothes in color coordinating order and by category so that it is easier to find what you are looking for when getting dressed. 9. Keep a utility basket in your closet with a lint brush, sweater shaver, shoe-shine sponge, extra felt strips
